Plans are well underway for the 2004 Australian Regional Tourism Convention. Victoria is delighted to be hosting the event and your co-hosts Country Victoria Tourism Council and Geelong-Otway Tourism have already commenced planning. As the details for the program are formalised, they will be added to the website.

Sea Change Lorne 2004 will explore regional tourism for Australia under an overarching theme of Sustainability. Within this broad theme the program will examine four elements: economic, environmental, community and self.

Working with the Centre for Regional Tourism Research and the Australian Regional Tourism Network the conference will bring together Australia's key players in regional tourism, to convene along one of the world's most famous scenic drives, the Great Ocean Road.

The program will focus on best practice, seeking to provide a forum for information exchange to support regional tourism growth. The location provides a perfect opportunity for blending a nationally relevant regional tourism program with the opportunity to examine at a practical level the first hand impacts and solutions in one of Victoria's premier tourism precincts.

The triple bottom line has become a regular feature in regional tourism considerations. The fourth element as part of Sea Change Lorne 2004 is self. Sustainability is nothing without sustainable work environments, personal and flexible, informative and active social program and Lorne provides the ideal setting.

Set between the sparkling waters of Loutit Bay and the Otways, Lorne has a special charm. Add mild weather, the café culture and fascinating shops, and it's no wonder Lorne is one of the region's most popular destinations and the ideal location for the 2004 Australian Regional Tourism Convention.
