Past Conventions

Since the first Convention, held in Port Macquarie NSW in 2001, each convention has had a unique feel and provided positive outcomes. Canberra 2007

The Canberra convention attracted delegates from all areas of the tourism industry. To the themes, leadership and partnership, delegates heard presenters from around the country and overseas including Wayne Calder, DITR; Peter Malcolm CEO Orca Tours; Tourism Australia's Katherine Droga; Bruce Leaver from Parks Australia and Fiona Lurhs - the CEO of Tourism Industry Association NZ among others.

norfolk 2006

The 2006 Convention was held on Norfolk Island and brought together Australia's key players in regional tourism. The theme for the 2006 Convention was based around the current research being undertaken by the Australian Regional Tourism Research Centre - ARTRC (formerly Centre for Regional Tourism Research)

2005

The 2005 Convention was held in the seaside town of Busselton, gateway to the Margaret River Wine region. The key theme for the 2005 convention was - Taking the pulse of regional tourism - Innovation and connectivity.

2004

The 2004 Convention was held in Lorne, Victoria. The "Sea Change Lorne" 2004 convention explored regional tourism for Australia under an overarching theme of Sustainability. Within this broad theme the program examined four elements: economic, environmental, community and self.

2003

The 2003 Convention was workshop focussed with field trips and practical learnings and included great networking. A lot of quality Tasmanian wine, food and entertainment was also thrown into the mix.

2002

Celebrating the Year of the Outback, the 2002 convention looked at issues of leadership, developing quality visitor experiences, raising community awareness about the value of tourism and harnessing community support.

2001

The inaugural event was held in Port Macquarie, New South Wales in September, 2001. The Convention involved three days of discussion and debate and resulted in a number of outcomes with national, state, and local significance.

The four themes in 2001 were: destination branding; new product development; partnership marketing; and resource management.
