Project Background
Byron Shire Council has identified the need for a strategic plan to guide the sustainable development, management and marketing of tourism in the Shire over the next 10 years. The development of the Tourism Management Plan is guided by a Council Steering Committee comprising Mayor Jan Barham, Councillor Diane Woods, Councillor Bob Tardiff and Community Economic Development Officer - Michel Boyle.
This plan will be developed during coming months by a team of regional tourism experts from the Australian Regional Tourism Research Centre (ARTRC), in consultation with the local Steering Committee. The team includes:
- Dr Meredith Lawrence (Project Coordinator)
- Associate Professor Jeremy Buultjens (Director, ARTRC)
- Dr Dianne Dredge (Head, School of Environmental Planning, Griffith University)
- Dr Carmen Tideswell (Graduate College of Management, Southern Cross University)
- Dr Kath Fisher – (Graduate Research College, Southern Cross University)
This team brings independent regional tourism expertise and professional rigour to the project including experience in: economic and tourism planning; sustainable destination development, management and marketing; tourism research analysis, local government involvement in tourism; and community consultation. |
