Many of our destinations are doing it tough, real tough. The recent spate of natural disasters and crises around the country has seen an alarming fall in visitor numbers and forward bookings. Many are approaching the end of their tether and facing a stark reality they had never before imagined.
There have been tough times before though and, as a country, we're a resilient mob who love a challenge. Our mateship is (almost) constitutional and Australians are legendary for helping out those in need.
The ARTN is calling for tourism professionals to mentor operators and destination management staff who have been effected by the recent floods in QLD, NSW, VIC and WA.
You don't need to be an expert in risk management, or crisis mitigation. You just need to have had first hand experience in bouncing back from disaster and a willingness to support someone now going through a similar experience.
Mentors will be introduced to Mentees via the ARTN and will together define the scope of their contact. It may be as simple as a regular phone call to check in and give some encouragement.
People interested in becoming a Mentor should email
vivienne@artn.com.au or phone the ARTN's Network Manager, Vivienne Palmer on 02 6620 3785.
