Inspiration to keep on keeping on

In 2009, the town of Marysville in Victoria was devastated by the Black Saturday Bushfires.  Up until then, Jane Fraga and her family were the proud owner operators of a bustling cafe popular with locals and visitors alike.  The cafe was severely damaged in the fires as was the Fraga's family home and an investment property they had high hopes for.  Two years later, Jane has accomplished a great deal as she continues to rebuild her and re-establish her livelihood.

The Black Saturday bushfires that ravaged regional Victoria in 2009 sent shockwaves around the world and saw a devastating loss of life and property.  Two years on and the recovery and rebuilding process is well underway and tourism is getting back on its feet.

Floods Couldn't Keep A Good Town Down!

Sharyn Innes from Katherine, NT tells how the region was able to bounce back from floods

In 1998, more than 500mm of rain fell in less than 72 hours in the catchment surrounding the township of Katherine in the Northern Territory.  The inundation threatened to simply end tourism to that region for the foreseeable future.  Instead, the local industry, led by Sharyn Innes and her team, rallied to use this apparent disaster as a way to catapult tourism to the top of the agenda.

Katherine went on to have one its best years on record for both visitors and yield and used the floods of '98 to relaunch the tourism industry to the benefit of the local economy.
